West Ham star Michail Antonio has sent a transfer message to the club's summer target, Manchester United star Scott McTominay.

The Lancaster-born star is still struggling for game time under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford this season but stole the show in his side's last Premier League match against Brentford. Coming off the bench in the 87th minute, the dynamic midfielder went on to score two stoppage-time goals to secure an unforgettable win for the Red Devils.

The performance compliments prolific showings for the Scotland national team this year with the Manchester United man playing a key role in helping Steve Clarke's side qualify for Euro 2024. McTominay has six goals and an assist in the six qualifying matches he's featured in this year.

Even without much playing time in the North West, it's looking like a breakthrough season for McTominay and Antonio has suggested the star could use this as the perfect moment to move on.

Speaking on the BBC Sounds' Footballers' Football Podcast, Antonio said: "Obviously you see the qualities that he has and everything that he brings to the team. A few games last year, you could see how well he is and the position that he plays. Obviously we wanted to take him in the summer. There were some rumours of us wanting us to take him, I didn't know if it was factual or not.

"He definitely has the qualities to play in the Premier League, it's just every manager has their philosophy and the way they want to play. It's one of those things that in football, managers just feel you are the one for them or not. Sometimes you outlive a manager, sometimes you don't.

"It's just whether he's willing to stay around to see what happens - whether he's going to get some more actual minutes and keep pushing himself - or this season might be the season where he doesn't see himself outliving him [ten Hag] and moving on somewhere else to show what he can do. Coming off the bench and giving them their win like that, that's the best way to show the qualities that you have and what you bring to the team."

West Ham were reported to have had a £30 million bid for McTominay's services rejected by Manchester United this summer as they lined up a double swoop for the midfielder and out-of-favour centre-back Harry Maguire. The Red Devils are believed to value the academy graduate at £45 million, although that fee could have risen after the star's recent heroics.
