West Ham star heaps praise on ‘unbelievable’ Brendan Rodgers as David Moyes in ‘danger’ post Newcastle loss

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has praised recently dismissed Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as "one of the best I've ever had" as pressure mounts on David Moyes.

The Hammers suffered a 5-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Wednesday night with schoolboy errors costing the London side who sit 15th in the Premier League table, level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth.

Boos rang around The London Stadium at full time as West Ham fell to their 15th defeat of the season.

It's been a record season of Premier League sackings this term with 13 managers losing their jobs so far, but David Moyes admitted he was in 'danger' despite maintaining the backing of the board.

Moyes said: "They are behind me [the board], but if you lose badly like that as a manager you're always in danger."

Earlier this week, when speaking on The Footballer's Football Podcast, Antonio praised Brendan Rodgers after his dismissal from Leicester City.

The former Liverpool manager is one of the favourites to land the West Ham role should Moyes be relieved of his duties and worked with Antonio when at Reading.

Antonio said: "If you look at his stats and how well he's done at Leicester, he had a bad year. Him dropping into the bottom three right now, I understand why they want to switch it up but he's an unbelievable manager.

"The quality he has. I had him at Reading and he's up there with one of the best I've ever had. Tactically, he does it all.

"The only reason he got released from Reading is because we had all the possession, controlled the game but couldn't score any goals. We had 70-75% possession every single game."

Rodgers is also a frontrunner to land the Tottenham Hotspur role which was vacated over the international break following Antonio Conte's furious rant about his players and the Spurs board after drawing at Southampton.

Speaking about Rodgers' potential at landing the post at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Antonio said: "I think that would be unbelievable. Spurs like to play football, I swear to you it would work. They've got the ability.

"Rodgers took over Liverpool and was two points off winning the Premier League. He has the qualities to do it and learnt from one of the best with Mourinho at Chelsea. I feel it would work."
