West Ham are reportedly closing in on the signing of Sao Paulo defender Luizao. The Hammers have the opportunity to bolster their ranks in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to reporter Gabriel Sa on Twitter (see tweet below), David Moyes’ side are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with the centre-back and he is expected to say farewell to his current club next Sunday as he embarks on a potential new chapter in his career.

Fellow Premier League club Fulham have also been linked with a move for the Brazilian as well, as per journalist Jorge Nicola, but it appears their London rivals have taken a step ahead of them now. West Ham could see the 20-year-old as a long-term replacement for Craig Dawson, who is out of contract at the end of this season and is due to become a free agent next summer as things stand.

Luizao has risen up through the academy at Sao Paulo and was a regular for them at various youth levels before breaking into their first-team earlier this year. He has since become one of their most prized assets but they could be poised to lose him this winter.

The Hammers are back in action this afternoon against Leicester City at the London Stadium as they look to bounce back from their Carabao Cup loss to Blackburn Rovers last time out. Moyes’ men are currently 15th in the table.
