West Ham backed to sign Champions League winner as Man Utd 'eye' defender

All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding West Ham as they prepare to return to action.

West Ham are now gearing up for Saturday’s Premier League clash with London rivals Brentford after a weekend off. The Hammers headed to Dubai for a warm-weather camp due to being out of the FA Cup, and it will have been valuable time for Graham Potter as he continues to get to know his players.

The Hammers have had a slow start under Potter, but they have shown some signs of improvement. Consistency will be needed if the Irons are to make a serious run towards the top half, and as they search for that consistency, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the London Stadium.

Grealish tipped for Hammers

Former Premier league striker turned pundit Stan Collymore believes Manchester City star Jack Grealish could end up West Ham if he decides to leave City. Collymore told Goal: “Jack might end up going somewhere like Saudi because I’m struggling to see a top four, five or six team that would take him. The traditional top four or five, wages and fee would be a problem.

“If you are an aspiring club, Newcastle could go and buy anybody that’s young and hungry and fresh, likewise Villa. If you are one of the clubs like Bournemouth and Brighton, you probably couldn’t afford him. You could probably see him at a club like West Ham, bizarrely, because they have got the money and London as clout. I’m absolutely sure that Unai Emery won’t be going anywhere near Jack Grealish. Great emotional story, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Todibo eyed

West Ham could receive interest in defender Jean-Clair Todibo this summer despite having only signed up last summer. Todibo has missed recent weeks through injury but it set to return either this weekend or next.

According to GiveMeSport, Man Utd are plotting a centre-back signing this summer having lost Lisandro Martinez to an ACL injury, an injury that will keep him out for much of the year. Todibo is reportedly one of their options as they look to bridge the gap heading into next season.

Ward-Prowse on West Ham return

West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse has been speaking after his return from his loan spell with Nottingham Forest. Potter decided to recall Ward-Prowse ahead of the deadline to add further depth to his midfield.

“It's good to be back,” Ward-Prowse told the West Ham website. “Even though the last few months for me personally haven't been the most productive as I would have liked on the pitch, I feel as though the whole experience off it and the sort of different tests that I've had to endure have sort of benefited me now. And I think I'll look back on the experience and I'll be grateful for it. It's really lit a fire in me to go out and prove people wrong.”
