West Ham 'pressing' for La Liga transfer as Graham Potter handed triple injury boost
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding West Ham as they begin preparations to return to action.
West Ham return to action on Saturday when they face London rivals Brentford following a much-needed break. The Hammers took advantage of their weekend off to travel to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp in a bid to recharge, and for Graham Potter to try to get more of his ideas across.
The Irons have endured a frustrating season so far, and they could do with a run of positive results to move towards - and perhaps into - the top half. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the London Stadium.
Mendez ‘interest’
West Ham are searching for a new creative midfielder ahead of the summer, with Lucas Paquetá looking likely to end up elsewhere. The Hammers have reportedly set their eyes on Real Sociedad star Brais Mendez.
According to Fichajes.net, the Irons are ‘pressing’ in a bid to secure a deal for the 28-year-old, and they may be able to take advantage of the fact Real Sociedad are struggling to get into the top six currently. If La Real fail to make Europe, there will likely be some cost-cutting at the club next season.
Injury boosts
West Ham have been handed a triple injury boost, with Lucas Paqueta, Jean-Clair Todibo and Edson Alvarez all returning to training ahead of the Brentford clash.
According to the Standard, all three are in training and could be in contention for the Bees clash. Todibo has missed West Ham’s last five through injury, whlle Paquetá is coming back from a groin injury and Alverez from a back issue.
Nuno on Ward-Prowse
Nottingham Forest boss has been speaking about the decision to allow James Ward-Prowse to end his loan spell and return to the London Stadium.
“It was very hard because since James came in he was a big help for us,” said the Forest boss. “I had the chance to speak to him and explain that it wasn’t an easy situation and every game he played he helped us. There was a moment where he was not playing and then his parent club told us that their intention was to call for him and the intention was that everybody felt that the decision was for the best for all parties.”
