West Ham are reportedly keeping tabs on Botafogo ace Jeffinho. The Hammers are being linked with the midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

According to journalist Jose Passini on Twitter (see tweet below), David Moyes’ side have sent scouts to watch the player in action. Fellow Premier League side Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest.

It has been a disappointing first few months of the season for West Ham in the league and they will be hoping to see an upturn in form after the World Cup. They were beaten 2-0 at home by Leicester City this weekend and have slipped to 16th in the table, just a point above the relegation zone.

The London club could see Jeffinho as someone who would inject more quality into their options in the middle of the park. He has been a key player for Botafogo since joining them earlier this year and the 22-year-old is now apparently attracting interest from Europe.

Prior to his move to his current club, he rose up through the ranks at Rio-based Resende and broke into their first-team as a youngster before landing a move away. He has since made 25 appearances in all competitions since his switch to Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos and has chipped in with a couple of goals.
