West Ham are eyeing up a sensational £40 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Schick, who shone at the recent Euro 2020 tournament, finishing as joint top goalscorer.

Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato says David Moyes wants to add a striker and a centre back to his squad before the window is over.

Moyes has yet to replace Ivory Coast striker Sebastian Haller since selling the target man to Ajax in January 2021, and has decided to rely on Michael Antonio to be the Hammers’ main attacking outlet.

But, with Antonio somewhat injury prone, and turning 32 at the end of March, it may be time for someone to come in and ease the burden on Antonio, who is a Jamaican international.

Schick has enjoyed an absolutely superb season in front of goal for Leverkusen this season, scoring 18 goals and setting up 3 in 16 games.

His team also sit third in the Bundesliga, and he could be the difference between whether West Ham get Champions League football or not.

The east Londoners currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, two points ahead of London rivals Arsenal, with the north London club having two games in hand.

Despite the miracles Moyes has done at West Ham, transforming the club from relegation fodder to genuine European contenders, fans have voiced their frustration at the lack of firepower up front.

After heavy links to Czech wonderkid Adam Hlozek, the noise around signing a striker has gone silent.

It feels like Schick will almost be the final piece of the puzzle.

The club have seen Issa Diop, Declan Rice, Ben Johnson and Jarrod Bowen all perform well this season, and the former Sparta Prague striker can be the final piece to take West Ham to the next level.

If he signs, Schick will join a mini Czech contingent at the club, as he will join fellow countrymen Alex Kral, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

The striker has also been linked to Manchester City and Newcastle United, and it could become a tug of war for the 25-year-old.
