West Ham 'eye' Liverpool man as Brighton 'braced' for blockbuster £90m offer ahead of Chelsea fixtures

Chelsea welcome West Ham United to Stamford Bridge on Monday night with both clubs looking to wrap up their transfer business

Chelsea and West Ham United are in Premier League action on deadline day as the two clubs meet at Stamford Bridge in a London derby on Monday night. Clubs in England have until 11 pm on Monday to complete their recruitment before the window shuts again until the summer.

The Hammers are keen to recruit and give the recently-appointed Graham Potter more options within his squad after a disappointing first half of the season under Julen Lopetegui. The likes of Brian Brobbey and Andre Silva have been linked while reports emerged on Thursday that had a bid had been made for PSV frontman Ricardo Pepi. West Ham also made a £57m bid for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran but he is now set for a move to Saudi Arabia.

While strikers have been the main focus for the Hammers, a new link has emerged as the Hammers look to bolster their midfield with a Premier League star who shone in the Championship last season.

Morton linked with West Ham switch

According to talkSPORT, West Ham ‘are considering’ making a move to sign Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton. The report does not indicate whether it would be a loan move or a full-time deal, but it does mention that no contact has yet been made between the two Premier League rivals. The report has been firmed up by ExWHUEmployee, who says the 22-year-old is highly rated.

Morton enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Hull City in the Championship last season as he made 41 appearances, scoring three goals and providing five assists as the East Yorkshire club finished seventh, one spot outside the play-offs. He has already hinted he may need to leave Anfield this month after being limited to just five senior appearances.

He said: “This month is a big month for myself. It's decision time, and I feel ready to kick on and be a proper professional, if that's here or someone else. I need to be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”

Brighton star linked with blockbuster exit

After Monday’s game with West Ham, Chelsea face Brighton and Hove Albion in back-to-back games in the FA Cup and Premier League. Ahead of those matches, the Seagulls have rejected a £54m bid from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr for Japan international Kaoru Mitoma. That is according to CBS Sports who further claim that Al-Nassr are preparing a second offer worth up to £90m.

Mitoma is under contract at the Amex Stadium until 2027 and first joined Brighton in 2021. He has scored 18 goals and provided 16 assists in his 92 appearances for the south coast club. The 27-year-old won his first two games against Chelsea as Brighton beat the Blues 4-1 and 2-1 during the 2022-23 season. He has lost the last three fixtures he has been involved in against the Blues, however.

Speaking about the player after Brighton’s 3-1 win over Manchester United earlier this month, Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler said: “When Kaoru always stays active not near the ball, when he knows how to use his speed to do the deep run with the right timing at the right moment, then he is a big, big player. Because he has everything. He is fast, he is good one against one, he can score goals, he can find solutions in narrow spaces with not a lot of time. I am really happy to work with him. he is a good listener. I am not a big fan of statistics, but this statistic is very nice and I have to congratulate him.”
