West Ham transfer hits the rocks as European giants 'call' Hammers defender
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding West Ham as they look to beat the transfer deadline.
West Ham picked up a big point over the weekend, drawing with top four hopefuls Aston Villa. Graham Potter will be on the lookout for more improvements when the Hammers face another big test in Chelsea on Monday night.
In the meantime, the search goes on for new signings, with Potter keen to add a new frontman to cover for Niclas Fullkrug and possibly a defender to deal with further injury issues. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the London Stadium.
Brobbey blow
West Ham are said to have hit a stumbling block in their reported bid to land Ajax forward Brian Brobbey. The Hammers were said to be closing in on a loan deal for the talented young forward, but talks have stalled.
According to Football Insider, extended talks have led to no breakthrough between the two clubs. It’s claimed Ajax are only willing to allow the forward to leave on a permanent deal, while the Hammers want a loan deal, at least initially. It’s claimed talks between the two clubs have stalled with West Ham yet to agree a deal for the 22-year-old.
Todibo interest
Juventus are on the lookout for another defensive reinforcement despite agreeing to sign Renato Veiga on loan from Chelsea this week. According to Sky Sports, the Old Lady are interested in a deal to sign West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo, and they view him as one of their best options.
It’s claimed Juve boss Thiago Motta has already personally called Todibo in a bid to convince him to make the move. Todibo was actually linked with a move to Juventus in the summer, but he decided to join West Ham with the Italian club stalling.
Paquetá happy under Potter
West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá is enjoying life under new boss Potter, saying after the Villa draw: “He (Potter) has brought new ideas to the team, and good ideas. We are trying to improve things week after week, and I think we are starting to see the work pay off. Now we need to recover, go again and try to win more points in the next match.
“We need to be positive looking ahead. We have lots of exciting games coming up, so we have to work hard in training, hopefully players will start to come back from injury and we can be strong. We will do our best for the fans and for the Club.”
