West Ham draft deadline day plan to secure bargain deal for 32-goal striker

West Ham are said to have devised a plan to win a transfer race regardless of whether their bid is accepted.

West Ham have reportedly submitted a new offer for one of their winter transfer targets, hoping to beat the deadline day clock. The Hammers are in action on Monday night, taking on Chelsea, and that is not ideal for a club that is looking to strengthen on deadline day.

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson looks set to arrive on loan for the rest of the season, while James Ward-Prowse has returned from his loan spell with Nottingham Forest, and Graham Potter will be keeping an eye out for a defender across the rest of the day.

Meanwhile, West Ham also like the look of a striker they believe can have a big impact in the future. Celtic forward Daniel Cummings is of interest having impressed for the Bhoys B team, scoring 32 goals in 43 league appearances.

Cummings is out of contract in the summer, but the Hammers are looking to strike a deal to sign him on a reduced fee now rather than on a free in the summer. But Celtic are not playing ball, so, according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, West Ham have submitted another bid, and if that is not accepted, they will turn to the option of signing Cummings on a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer.

Joseph tweeted: “UPDATE: West Ham have made an improved offer for Celtic striker Daniel Cummings. If the latest bid is rejected, it’s understood #WHUFC will finalise the pre-contract agreement for a move in the summer.”

It is important to note that, even if West Ham do sign Cummings on a pre-contract agreement, Celtic would be due a compensation fee due to the fact he is an academy player. If the two clubs cannot agree a fee, it would go to a tribunal to decide the final amount owed.
