West Ham 'interested' in 'red-hot' striker and £54m forward in bold plan to revitalise attacking threat

West Ham are reportedly targeting both a winger and a striker to revamp their attacking threat.

West Ham United began to show what they’re really capable of as they beat Manchester United 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. However, according to reports, Julian Lopetegui is keen to add some further talents to the Hammers’ attack.

West Ham are said to be interested in Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman and have begun internal discussions about possibly signing the player in January, according to GiveMeSport.

The winger currently plays in the Serie A but has Premier League experience with spells at Everton, Fulham and Leicester City. Lookman is also a nominee for the 2024 Ballon D’or, which will be awarded on Monday night.

He has scored four goals and four assists in the opening six games of the Serie A season this year, and also has a goal in the Champions League. Last season, Lookman had a lot of success for Atalanta, he scored 17 times across all competitions, including a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, which his side went on to win 3-0.

His impressive performances have attracted interest from several teams, with West Ham said to be one of the possible destinations for the Nigeria international. However, they have Premier League competition, as Manchester United reported to have had interest in June, and Arsenal made a late bid for him in August.

However, GiveMeSport reports that the Hammers are a more likely destination for the 27 year-old, who could provide Lopetegui with extra firepower on the wings alongside Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus.

Aston Villa man remains West Ham’s primary target

Despite the reported interest in Lookman, Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is said to remain the Hammers’ primary target even though the 20-year-old signed a new contract at Villa Park earlier in the month.

Duran has attracted heavy interest due to the fact that he has had a red-hot start to the new campaign. Duran has seven goals in 13 appearances in all competitions this season but remains on the substitute bench due to the quality of Villa man Ollie Watkins who starts ahead of him.

If he continues to remain on the bench, the Colombian could get frustrated and aim to make a move away with West Ham being one of the potential suitors. The Hammers had interest in Duran over the summer and had a £32m bid rejected by Villa for the striker.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in the striker too, which could put a spanner in the works of any potential move to West Ham - Champions League football and Premier League contention at Arsenal could be a real draw for the 20-year-old.

Furthermore, London rivals Chelsea also remain interested in the striker as they considered making a serious move for him over the summer transfer window. However, the Blues decided to prioritise their pursuit of Victor Osimhen who is now on loan at Galatasaray.
