Chelsea and West Ham dealt suckerpunch £80m transfer blow by Aston Villa
Chelsea and West Ham have been dealt what could be a fatal suckerpunch for any remaining hopes to complete a transfer for in-form Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran having been linked with the forward during the summer window.
The Midlands club has today confirmed that the 20-year-old has signed a new long-term contract which will keep him at Villa Park until 2030. In a statement shared on the Aston Villa website, the club said: "Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Jhon Durán has signed a new contract with the club until 2030.

He has also contributed match-winning goals against West Ham, Leicester and Everton, the latter of which was a spectacular long-range strike."

Aston Villa striker centre of summer transfer saga
Duran only joined Aston Villa from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023 but had been linked with a summer exit. The striker only made three Premier League stars under Unai Emery last season.
Last week, it emerged that Chelsea had been 'really, really close' to completing a deal with Aston Villa in July, with midfielder Conor Gallagher set to move the other way. However, that transfer collapsed.
West Ham were also heavily linked with a move for the player. At one infamous moment during the summer window, Durwan was even seen holding up a Hammers sign on social media, but a deal couldn't be reached between the two clubs.

The London club had bid £32 million for Duran but Aston Villa remained firm on a £40 million asking price. The Hammers instead turned to bring in Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £27 million.
News of a new contract is a serious blow to any remaining Chelsea and West Ham hopes of signing the player. It comes after TEAMtalk reported last week that the Midlands club had now slapped an £80 million price tag on the talisman, doubling the price that West Ham could have supposedly signed the forward for just a couple of months ago.
