The former West Ham youngster has been released by the Magpies following two years at the club.

Newcastle United free agent Amadou Diallo has been spotted wearing the colours of his former club West Ham after being released by the Tyneside outfit this summer.

As per the Shields Gazette, Diallo posted an image of himself training in the Hammers' shirt of former teammate Divin Mubama when playing at the Newham Powerleague in Barking. He also wore a pair of Newcastle United shorts.

The 21-year-old is a product of the West Ham academy and moved to the Magpies in 2022. Diallo only made one competitive first-team appearance for the club, which came as a substitute cameo in the 4-1 win over Chelsea in November 2023.

It had already been expected that the winger would be released by the Tyneside club this summer but he was still part of the squad which travelled to Australia last month and featured in friendly matches against Tottenham Hotspur and the A-League All Stars.

The Gazette understands that Diallo is currently 'exploring his options regarding his next move' with a transfer abroad one of the options available to him. The player signed his first professional contract with West Ham in 2020 but never made a first team appearance.

As his latest social media post shows, Diallo clearly still holds West Ham close to his heart but there is no sign that Julen Lopetegui might move to bring the player back to the London Stadium this summer.

Diallo issued a farewell message to Newcastle United on social media last month. He wrote: “My time at @nufc has come to an end. Firstly, I would like to thank the club for giving me the great opportunity of playing for them.

“I would also like to give a massive thank you to the fans for their support as I really enjoyed representing the club.”

Diallo is still just 21 years old but perhaps hasn't quite hit the heights expected when coming through the ranks at West Ham. At the age of just 15, he was described as 'electric' by the club and coach Jack Collinson labelled his progress as 'incredible' after an FA Youth Cup showing.

Diallo has also been turning heads with the Newcastle United under-21 side. Following victory against Wrexham in the Football League Trophy, Magpies coach Ben Dawson said: "We see what he’s got Monday to Friday, and then come a Saturday, he almost looks at times as though he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders. We just said to him ahead of the game, ‘Go and enjoy the experience, and make sure that by the end of the game, they know who you are'."

“He’s done that, so fair play to him. He’s taken that on board and looked really threatening. We now need to get him to the point where he’s adding some end product to what he’s doing.”
