West Ham supporters will have enjoyed a cameo from EastEnders star and huge Hammers fan Danny Dyer on BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023.

As the Salford spectacle opened the show by looking back over a year of sport, Dyer was roped in to provide a voiceover to a montage of the best footballing moments from the past 12 months. As well as Scottish Premiership and Women's Super League action, clips included the Carabao Cup final and that famous Europa Conference League final in Prague.

It was the highlight of the year, and the most jubilant moment in recent years, for West Ham as David Moyes' side beat Fiorentina 2-1 in dramatic fashion. You could picture Dyer smirking as he narrated: "We will never forget Prague. West Ham in town for the Europa Conference League final. 90th minute, all square, squeaky bum time. When the going gets tough, the tough get Bowen. Our boy. My boy! Our moment! Thousands of Hammers, what a way to nail it."

West Ham forward Bowen secured the victory for the London side in the dying moments as he slotted past Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano having latched onto a through ball. The 26-year-old has an extra special relationship with The Football Factory actor, not only as the talisman of his beloved Hammers but also because he is dating Dyer's famous daughter Danny.

The couple met in 2021 and welcomed twins Star and Summer this May. Dyer has publicly given the couple his blessing, even green lighting the slightly lewd chant featuring his daughter that West Hams sing to the tune of 'Freed from Desire'. He told The Jonathan Ross Show: "There is a chant, which I think is quite sweet... there's romance to it. When he scores, and he does score a lot, it goes like this, 'Bowen's on fire and he's s*****ing Dani Dyer'.

"I've been over there singing it, jumping around. Is that wrong? I think Dani was a little bit freaked out by it but I said there was something quite sweet about it."
