West Ham United could face fresh opposition for the signature of a former player.

The London club are considering a late move to add one further signing to their midfield as they juggle the demands of European and domestic football.

West Ham thrived in the Europa Conference League last season but they are desperate to improve on last campaign's disappointing 14th place finish in the league. One name that David Moyes is currently considering is former Hammer Jesse Lingard who enjoyed a successful six-month loan spell at the club during the 2020/21 campaign.

The England midfielder was praised for his impact at the London Stadium and he recorded an impressive nine goals and five assists in 16 appearances.

Lingard has been heavily linked with a move back to West Ham since that loan spell, but he eventually opted to remain at Old Trafford for one final season, before joining Nottingham Forest on a one year deal.

Lingard struggled with a mixture of form and fitness at The City Ground and failed to register a single goal or assist in the league.

The free agent is desperate to revive his career and international prospects and he has been training with West Ham in recent weeks.

Moyes told The Athletic: “Jesse’s doing quite well and he’s getting his shape back. But there will be no discussion on Jesse just yet. When we’re ready, we will do; but he’s working hard and he’s shown a great attitude to his work. It’s taken a bit of time to get him back into condition.”

West Ham have until 13 September to make their final decision on Lingard, but they could encounter fresh challenges in making the deal happen due to interest from Turkey.

Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider reports that Turkish duo Galatassary and Fenerbahce are both interested in the player. The Turkish transfer window remains open until 15 September and a number of teams are linked with late deals for Premier League stars.

Earlier this week reports from L’Equipe claimed that Arsenal man Pepe could be poised for a move to Besiktas.  While Turkish outlet Ajansspor claims that Jorginho is a top target for Fenerbache.
