Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou sack stance emerges ahead of Man Utd clash
Tottenham are said to have a solid stance over the future of Ange Postecoglou amid building pressure.
Tottenham are on the ropes, with their season hanging by a thread following two cup exits. Spurs gave up their lead over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, exiting at the semi-final stage, and they followed up that defeat with another to Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
With Tottenham already struggling mightily in the Premier League, their only hope for the season is the Europa League, and that is a notoriously difficult competition to win.
In the meantime, Ange Postecoglou is battling to keep his job, with every poor result causing Spurs fans to look upwards, wondering whether Daniel Levy and co will pull the trigger. That is doubly the case this week after the two cup defeats and the loss of two avenues to silverware - and indeed European qualification.
But according to former Premier League scout Mick Brown, who has told Football Insider that Postecoglou will get chance to prove himself with a near full squad first, with a number of players due back. Brown said: “They’re putting their eggs in one basket at the moment. The thinking is very much ‘we’ll be alright when we get our injured players back’.
“But given the length of time these players have been out of the game, they’ve got to get back up to match fitness, can they do that while still starting games? Then, if they get them all back and they’re still losing games, what happens then? The pressure will only get more intense, and I think that’s when he’ll be sacked, if players come back from injuries and there isn’t an immediate turnaround in form.
“That’s what they’re expecting and hoping for – players to come back and results to improve. If it doesn’t happen, the blame will be placed on the manager. They’ve put so much emphasis on these injured players, so they’re willing to stick with him until he gets them back into the team. But if they come back and things don’t go well, it doesn’t bode well for Postecoglou’s position.
