Tottenham 'eye' 19-goal striker with £43m release clause as Fabrizio Romano reveals 'matching rights' clause

Tottenham Hotspur are back in Premier League action this weekend

Tottenham Hotspur are sat in 14th place in the Premier League. They have 14 fixtures left to play this season as they look to rise up the table over the coming weeks and months.

They were beaten 2-1 away at Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup last time out. Mathys Tel scored his first goal for the London outfit but they weren’t able to find an equaliser.

It was a tough past week for Ange Postecoglou’s side and pressure continues to mount on the former Celtic man. The club hierarchy have a decision to make regarding his future.

Tottenham Hotspur eye Moise Kean

Spurs are ‘monitoring’ Fiorentina striker Moise Kean along with rivals, according to reporter Nico Schira on X. The player is said to have a £43million release clause from July.

Kean, 24, joined his current club last year from Juventus and has since been a hit. He has scored 19 goals in 28 games in all competitions this season, 15 of which have come this season.

The Italy international, who has 19 caps under his belt, has played in England before with Everton but struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park. He has also had spells in the past at Hellas Verona and PSG.

Harry Kane latest

Manchester United are said to be admirers of former Spurs striker Harry Kane, according to Fabrizio Romano. He remains on the books of Bayern Munich in Germany but it has also been revealed that Spurs have a matching rights agreement for the player.

Romano has told GiveMeSport: “Harry Kane also had a ‘secret’ release clause in his contract – last month. Yes, as a deal for €80m was available in January and not valid in the summer, but there was not even one single contact with Premier League clubs as Kane is not even planning for a move as of now. He’s very happy in Munich, his family is happy in Germany and Bayern are absolutely planning with Kane also for next season.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be a big fan of Harry Kane, but the Manchester United project is going in a different direction, trusting young players, reducing salaries and following different principles, so there’s nothing really concrete in this rumour despite recent reports. Don’t forget about Tottenham, as they have matching rights for Harry Kane. At any moment, if Bayern receive a bid, Spurs will be informed and can match the proposal to bring Kane back – if they want to.”

What now for Tottenham Hotspur?

Spurs are back in action on Sunday with a home clash against Manchester United. They are looking to return to winning ways.

Following their defeat at Aston Villa, Postecoglou said: “People can judge me. They can say I've done a bad job, I'm not up to it or whatever. That's fine. What I'm saying is you can't be critical of our players' performances at this time.”

He added: “[It's been] Two and a half months of asking 17-year-olds, 18-year-olds and senior players with no rest to play Thursday and Sunday [every week]. If you think that is not at all a factor in how this team is performing, then there's nothing else I can say.

"I think this group of players, once we get the rest of the group in, will be an outstanding team. I have no doubt about that. Whether other people can see that is of no interest to me."
