Tottenham could get perfect managerial appointment opportunity due to 'target's' contract stance

Tottenham could get one of their potential managerial candidates if they make the decision to move on from Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham have been given hope of landing one of their reported managerial targets if they do decide to move on from Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou has come under intense pressure this season having struggled to deal with a mountain of injury issues.

The Australian impressed in his early days with the club, but he has not been able to find solutions so far this term, with Spurs sitting in the bottom half of the table.

For now, it seems Postecoglou will be given more time, and it does seem like a fair decision based on the severity of the injury crisis the club has struggled through. The injuries are now clearing up, and within a few weeks, it’s likely the squad should have a normal level of injuries again, with Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke, Cristian Romero and others expected back.

It’s then that Postecoglou’s clock will begin to tick, given the club will expect him to deliver results in the absence of any injury excuses to fall back on. Although, with so much uncertainty surrounding the managerial position, it would be no surprise if the Spurs hierarchy are already doing their homework on potential managerial targets in case they are forced to make a decision.

With that in mind, it has been reported by The Boot Room that AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is a possible target. The Spaniard has guided the Cherries into a European spot so far this season, with the South coast club currently sat in seventh.

Paired with his fine work at Rayo Vallecano, this season’s efforts have seen Iraola become a potential candidates for a number of big jobs, and it’s reported that Bournemouth are desperate to tie him down to a new deal to keep any interested sides at bay, or at least to protect themselves financially if someone does want to pay a big clause to appoint Iraola.

His current contract runs until the summer of 2026, but it’s reported that Iraola has made it clear he won’t discuss new terms until the end of the season, wanting to solely focus on matters on the pitch until then. That could give Tottenham the window they need to snatch him away should Postecoglou move on, and if that decision is not made until the summer, it makes every week after the season vital, given Bournemouth are likely to race into formal talks - which have not yet begun - straight after the campaign comes to a close.
