'Not the only crumble' - Spurs become butt of Footy Scran joke after Brighton defeat

Spurs threw away a two goal lead against Brighton on Sunday as the London outfit ‘crumbled’ at the Amex.

Tottenham Hotspur have become the butt of a 'Footy Scran' themed football joke on social media following last weekend's Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion with one attendee enjoying a serving of apple crumble at the Amex Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou's side looked to be on their way to an away victory on the south coast when first half goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison put the London outfit 2-0 up by half-time. However, the hosts bounced back with a vengeance after the break.

Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck all bagged goals to put Brighton 3-2 up by the 66th minute with Spurs having little to offer when looking to salvage something from the match. That result saw the Seagulls leapfrog their opponents in the table, rising to sixth - three places and two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

‘Not the only crumble’

There was plenty of fallout after Spurs had thrown away their two-goal win and one witty football fan couldn't help but make the obvious joke when seeing one person at the Amex post a photo of their pudding online. The X user snapped a photo of their apple crumble and custard to share with viral social media account Footy Scran, celebrating the £7 purchase.

In a post on the social media platform that has now been viewed two million times and received 34,000 likes, one user added: "Not the only crumble at the AMEX today."

People online labelled the joke a 'banger' while some admitted they 'hated that I laughed' at the wisecrack. Another added: "What happened to a pint and a pie and bovril the game is gone."

Postecoglou ‘absolutely gutted’ by Spurs collapse

Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Postecoglou confronted his side's crumble, sticking to football analysis rather than the metaphor of a sweet treat. He said: "It's disappointing. Frustrated. I'm absolutely gutted with that.

"That's probably the worst defeat we have had since I've been here. An unacceptable second half. We weren't anywhere near where we should be. Maybe we got carried away with how we were going.

"We accepted our fate which is hard to understand because we haven't done that since I've been here. We've normally fought for everything. When you don't you pay a price and we paid a price. Maybe that's part of the problem, maybe things were travelling on too smoothly. Football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself and that's what it looked like to me in the second half."
