Tottenham star Yves Bissouma is in hot water again, with the Mali international having had a torrid time since the arrival of Thomas Frank.

Bissouma has not impressed his new boss with his performances, fitness or attitude, and his off-the-field behaviour could now land him in more hot water just months before his contract is set to expire.

Here we run you through the latest developments surrounding Bissouma.

What has happened?

Tottenham star Yves Bissouma is in more bother after The Sun posted a video of the midfielder seemingly filming himself inhaling nitrous oxide, otherwise known as NOS or laughing gas. Bissouma can be seen inhaling a balloon, which is usually a form of inhaling the illegal substance.

Possession of the substance can lead to up to two years in prison, although it is rarely strictly enforced. The video was sent to The Sun by a woman who was invited to join Bissouma at a London party in early November. The lady was aware that Bissouma has previously been in trouble for inhaling the substance.

What Tottenham have said

Tottenham say they are looking into the video and that they will deal with it internally. A spokesperson told BBC Sport: "We are looking into the events and it will be dealt with as an internal matter.”

The Premier League tends to leave these types of instances to clubs to handle. Nitrous oxide has been a growing problem among footballers, and last year, an anonymous Premier League player checked into rehab for an addiction to the substance.

Recreational use of nitrous oxide was made illegal in the UK in 2023.

Bissouma’s previous trouble with nitrous oxide

Bissouma was also seen inhaling nitrous oxide on a video in 2024, which led to him being suspended for one game by Tottenham. The midfielder apologised, writing: “I want to apologise for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment.

"I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

Back then. Bissouma was part of Tottenham’s plans in a season that saw them struggle to keep players available through injury, but a more severe punishment could be expected this time.

Bissouma is not part of Frank’s plans, with the Spurs boss kicking the midfielder out of his UEFA Super Cup squad due to tardiness. Frank did say that Bissouma could turn things around, with the Dane saying: There are no hard feelings at all. Not before, not now, not at all. Train well and everyone has an opportunity."

But Bissouma didn’t help himself by flying to Mali to play in a rather meaningless game for his nation just days after returning from a long injury layoff only to suffer another significant ligament injury.

Bissouma is out of contract in the summer and Tottenham are not likely to be as lenient the second time around, should Bissouma prove guilty, especially given the player’s ever-diminishing status in their squad.
