Spurs are likely to go for a striker before the transfer window closes and they’ve been told to go for a Premier League star.

Former Tottenham man Jamie O'Hara has said Spurs should consider going for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford this summer to strengthen their attack going into next season.

Rashford scored eight goals across all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side in the 2023/24 season, 22 fewer than the previous campaign, and there have been suggestions that he could do with a fresh start elsewhere.

O’Hara, who previously played in midfield for the Lilywhites, says under the right manager, Rashford would be a hit and he’d love to see him make the switch to North London. He told talkSPORT: “I’ve got a soft spot for Rashford. I don't know why because watching him last season frustrated the hell out of me. When he's walking around at Luton and you're thinking, 'Come on, mate, give me more,' but he's got star quality.

“He's got the X-factor, and if you get a manager who gets the best out of him, you're going to get a top player. He doesn't get on with Erik ten Hag, and that's a problem they have to solve. You can't have someone on £375,000 a week just sitting on the bench, not doing anything, not featuring, and not being involved. He's got to play; you've got to find a way of getting him in the team. He makes brilliant runs but never gets the ball. Would you pay £80m for him? Yes, I would. I would love to see him at Tottenham.”

In 2020, Rashford won the hearts of many in England and around the world when he led a campaign for a free school meal scheme, inspiring an outpouring of support from all walks of life. The England striker drew admiration from everyone, including former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who described him as an incredible human being.

Klopp said in a press conference in 2020: “I’m not sure I can find any better words than other and much smarter people than me have said about it. But what Marcus started there is absolutely incredible, and it’s so nice. With all the rivalry between the clubs and stuff like this, in these moments as footballers – and as human beings – [we are] always united. It’s just nice to show in a time when obviously a lot of people who are really in charge of something and don’t show any sign of proper leadership, that a boy grown up in difficult circumstances, blessed with sensational talent obviously, never forgot his roots and where he is coming from.

“That he has to do it then is a bit of a shame but is wonderful as well. I hope his mother is really proud of him. I don’t know him, but even I am. He plays for United, which makes it really tricky! But it’s really an absolutely wonderful, wonderful thing. Whatever praise he got – and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want the praise now anymore, it’s nice to do it once – that’s how it is. Now he is in the role and now he is the role model for that, and that’s great. And it will not distract him from his football things. But, yeah, absolutely great and happy about it. An incredible person who has inspired us all.”

Spurs have a big decision to make on Richarlison, who is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, and will go into the transfer market for a striker if they sell the Brazilian.
