Bayern Munich held talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and expect to have Kane by the time they take on Bremen in the Bundesliga.

German giant Bayern Munich continue to push forward with their pursuit of Tottenham striker Harry Kane, with the German club willing to make him their highest earner now that Sadio Mane has left.

Mane arrived at Bayern as the poster boy, one that had won the Champions League and helped Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years, but after five months everything fell apart.

A bad injury just before the World Cup meant he missed the tournament which would have hurt and when he did return, Bayern had changed manager and he never got going.

In A brutal saga they immediately accelerated his exit from the club to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, despite the Senegal international’s willingness to try at least for one more season. They are now throwing the kitchen sink at Tottenham to bring in Kane to replace Sadio, who himself was brought in to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Kane has remained professional, although he is in an incredibly comfortable position where he knows that even if he stays at Spurs for the next 12 months, he can sign a pre-contract with a team abroad in six months. But all indications at this point are that Bayern will reach an agreement.

Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic also paid the price for the failed Mane move, and Bild is reporting that the English striker must look at the brutal nature of Bayern dealt with Mane when things weren't going well.

Kane and the European ambition

Kane has just turned 30 and sources say he is desperate to add trophies to a record-breaking career that has seen go from declared a “one-season wonder” to becoming England and Tottenham’s top scorer.

He never played abroad and in a very competitive club like Bayern, the story could have a different twist if things don’t go well. At Bayern he could take home around £20 million each year, but he will need to continue scoring at least 30 goals to help their push for European dominance, on top of the Bundesliga title they always almost win.

Kane is a natural finisher compared to Sadio and can certainly fit the number nine role they are looking for. He has the backing of Thomas Tuchel, who has been aggressive in his pursuit - in contrast with Mane who saw his manager Julian Nagelsmann sacked.

Kane’s camp is calm and his strike partner at Tottenham, Son Heung-min, says he is as assured as always despite all the noise going on around him.

He told reporters: “Harry has never shown any distraction. He’s always one of the hardest-working guys, working hard as a striker, sprinting back when we lose the ball. He is a great example.”

The England striker is expected to play for Spurs this weekend when they host Shakhtar Donetsk, but Bayern are hoping that they will have him by the time they take Werder Bremen on the opening day of the Bundesliga season.
