Tottenham told how to stop Mohamed Salah against Liverpool tonight by League Cup winner

Ange Postecoglou takes his side to Anfield in cup action tonight and must stop the in-form Mohamed Salah.

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and League Cup winner Michel Vorm has hinted how Ange Postecoglou's side may be able to stop the prolific Mohamed Salah on Thursday night and book a place in the Carabao Cup final.

Spurs travel to Anfield with a 1-0 advantage having beaten Arne Slot's side in North London last month. Tottenham haven't won a trophy since 2008 and, should they hold onto their lead on Merseyside, will be just one win away from silverware.

The chance to triumph at Wembley Stadium would help make up for what has been a thoroughly underwhelming Premier League season for Postecoglou. Despite Spurs holding the advantage, the London outfit goes into the second leg as underdogs given the red hot form of Liverpool.

The Reds beat AFC Bournemouth 2-0 at the weekend to secure their stronghold at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool are now six points clear ahead of second-placed Arsenal, with a game in hand.

League Cup winner gives advice on stopping Salah

It was Egyptian king Salah who bagged a brace in that fixture, taking his tally to 25 in all competitions. Stopping the forward will be a priority for Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to LondonWorld via 888sport, Vorm said: "You can always do your homework and look at where Salah shoot from at certain angles, whether he is coming from the middle, right or left-hand side of the goal. You can also look at how he strikes the ball from different positions so you can anticipate where the ball may go.

"Ultimately, to stay fully concentrated at all times is key and yes, you do need to sometimes anticipate where the ball may go, to give yourself a better chance of saving the shot. Staying big as a goalkeeper is very important to maximise your ability to save the ball."

Having played at Anfield a number of times himself, Vorm also had advice for the Tottenham Hotspur shot-stoppers for dealing with the famous atmosphere at the stadium. Antonin Kinsky is set to start between the sticks with Guglielmo Vicario not quite ready for his return from injury.

Vorm said: "It’s really difficult. The sound of the Kop behind you as a goalkeeper is very loud. It is one of the toughest Stadiums to play at as now only do you know it will be a tough game, but the aura of playing at Anfield is big.

"It’s a great stadium and the fans are always pushing the home team on. But as a goalkeeper, mentally, it’s just another game and you can’t let any outside interference affect your concentration or your game and you can learn from this and thrive in the experience of being the opposing goalkeeper."

Tottenham told to prioritise cup triumph

The former Tottenham and Swansea City goalkeeper is a League Cup winner himself, lifting the trophy with the Welsh side in 2013. The Swans beat Bradford City 2-1 in the final. Vorm has urged Postecoglou to keep the tournament as a priority this season.

He said: "The League Cup is so special. For us at Swansea, it felt like we had won the Premier League. We had a great squad of players and to win at Wembley was amazing. We were a little team and to beat Chelsea along the way was really big for us and then to go to Wembley and win so well was a dream for all of us. The only issue we had after that was we weren’t so consistent in the League with our form after the final.

"For Spurs, to win a trophy can be very important given it’s been a very long time since they have won a trophy. They will have enough to stay in the Premier League given the squad they have and with top players coming back to fitness soon, this is what they are missing and with all players fully fit, Spurs are a top side and they should show this once players return to full fitness. The cups are going to make the best of a tough season for Spurs so Ange can look at these competitions as a way of getting the club into Europe."

In other news, Liverpool will be without a first team titan for the second leg against Tottenham Hotspur tonight.
