Tottenham have up to nine players that could miss the game, whereas Liverpool have just two.

Tottenham look ahead to a huge Carabao Cup semi-final this week against Premier League leaders Liverpool.

It is a fantastic opportunity for Ange Postecoglou’s side to win the club’s first trophy since 2008. They won 1-0 in the first leg at home, and now face a trip to Anfield on Thursday, looking to reach the final where they would play either Newcastle United or Arsenal.

Tottenham won 2-0 against Brentford in their last game despite having a plethora of injury problems causing a few selection headaches for Postecoglou. No doubt, he will have the same issue this week.

However, positive news for the Spurs boss is that centre-back Micky Ven de Ven has made a return to training from his hamstring injury, something that will be vital as they face a superb Liverpool attack.

Liverpool injury news

Arne Slot’s team have just two players that could miss the game at Anfield on Thursday, although one is a big name that could have an impact on the way that the Reds play.

Firstly, centre-back Joe Gomez is a doubt for the game, as he is dealing with a hamstring injury. He has been back in training and is currently being assessed ahead of the game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also a doubt for the game, which would provide a huge blow for Arne Slot. The England international is dealing with a hamstring injury. It is more likely that Trent doesn’t feature against Spurs after he had to be substituted during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Bournemouth.

Slot said over the weekend: “I cannot tell you exactly what it is and how bad it is, of course, because we are one hour after the game, but it’s never a good sign... This is not a fact, but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday, but let’s hope he’s back with us as soon as possible.”

Tottenham injury news

Spurs still have nine players that could miss the game on Thursday. The first is striker Dominic Solanke, who is recovering from a knee injury. However, they do now have a replacement for him after signing Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day.

Defender Cristian Romero will also miss the game due to a hamstring injury. His recovery looked closer to a return, but it seems now that he will be out for a couple more weeks. Postecoglou said: “We are not really sure yet. There is still some work he needs to do. It’s just a slower healer, and it is one we are looking at on a week-to-week basis.”

Wilson Odobert remains out with a long-term hamstring injury. He is on a similar timeline to Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie and Timo Werner, who are all expected to be out for around 10 more days.

Udogie and Werner have hamstring issues, whereas Johnson is dealing with a calf injury. Vicario has a fractured ankle, which he played 60 minutes on during Spurs 4-0 win against Manchester City earlier in the season.

James Maddison is also set to miss the game against Liverpool with a calf injury. He may be able to return for Spurs’ next game, which comes in the FA Cup against Aston Villa.
