Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele says Antonio Conte left him with no choice but to leave the club in search of regular playing time.

Ndombele was Tottenham’s club record signing in 2019 under Mauricio Pochettino and even though he showed glimpses of why he was signed for £53.8 million, he just couldn’t find the consistency required to be a mainstay in the team.

Under Jose Mourinho, the French midfielder was mostly hit and miss- but reveals he was told from the onset by Antonio Conte that he’d be on the peripheral with little chance to fight for his spot.

The midfielder who is now on-loan at Napoli told SoFoot: “There was no other solution with Tottenham and I’m happy I chose Napoli.

“With Conte there was no choice, I would have liked to demonstrate my value on the pitch but I was on the edge of the group. It was communicated to me from the first day of training with the team.

“I don’t know what my future will be, many fans ask me to return to Tottenham but the clubs will decide and Napoli have an option to buy.

“I don’t mind being on loan here but sometimes I see footballers being treated more like commodities than people.”

In Italy, the 26-year-old Ndomble has played 26 games for run-away Serie A leaders Napoli who are 16 points ahead of second-placed Lazio.

Tottenham are in the market for a new manager after the sacking of Antonio Conte who questioned the culture at the club and suggested his players could not play under pressure.
