The defeat leaves Tottenham fifth in the Premier League table, three points behind Manchester United who have played two games less.

The atmosphere at home games is turning toxic with fans booing players exemplified by the torrid afternoon Davinson Sanchez endured in the defeat to Bournemouth. There were calls for the board to re-hire former manager Mauricio Pochettino too.

But if there was a player who emerged from the defeat with credit will be Danjuma, who was delighted to open his goal-scoring account for the club.

He admits the result was disappointing but urged his teammates to turn their attention to the crunch game against Newcastle United and the remaining seven games in the league.

The 26-year-old said: “Not meant to be, we gave it our all. Happy to get my first goal in front of the fans, apologies as it had to be against my former club.Dust down, back to work. We go again next week.”

Tottenham’s interim boss Cristian Stellini now has a big decision to make with Danjuma impressing in the time he was given over the weekend.

The Netherlands star joined the club in the winter transfer window but is yet to start a Premier League game having shown incredible commitment, there is now a huge clamor for him to start.
