Tottenham star writes 39-word apology for 4/10 Fulham performance

The Spurs defence proved little problem for Fulham as Marco Silva’s side scored two without reply at Craven Cottage.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero took to social media following the 2-0 defeat to Fulham to issue an apology to supporters after a 15th Premier League loss of the season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side went into the clash at Craven Cottage following defeat to Manchester City and a draw against AFC Bournemouth before making it three league outings without a win. It’s been a tough season for the North London outfit, whose brief signs of form when winning three back-to-back matches in February against Brentford, Manchester United and Ipswich Town already seems a lifetime ago.

There was little about the Tottenham Hotspur team as they made the short trip across London. Marco Silva’s men scored in the 78th and 88th minute to secure the three points, Rodrigo Muniz and former Spurs man Ryan Sessegnon on the scoresheet.

Tottenham Hotspur defender apologises to fans

Romero started the game in defence as he continues his return following a lengthy injury absence this season. Romero had been nursing a hamstring injury that saw him out of action between December and March with Postecoglou struggling for options at the back.

The Argentine returned to action against Bournemouth last weekend and clearly has some ground to make up if his performance against Fulham is anything to go by. Rated a 4/10 for his efforts against Fulham by Spurs Web, the outlet wrote: “Romero was in one of those moods today, more intent on stepping out of defence and snapping at the opposition than marshalling his back line. When you’re half a yard short of sharpness, it really shows.”

Feeling the weight of responsibility after the defeat, Romero took to Instagram and shared a message with fans. He said: “We’re not happy with our current situation, but this group will always stand up and take responsibility for everything that happens at the club. Let’s all continue to stand together Once again fans , thank you for always being there.”

Ange Postecoglou admits Spurs ‘nowhere near good enough’

Tottenham Hotspur manager Postecoglou was once again left having to defend his side after the defeat, which came just days after beating AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League and progressing to the last 16. Speaking after the match, the Aussie said: "I get their disappointment. It's unacceptable to see 15 league defeats. It's nowhere near good enough, nowhere near the level we need to be, and I understand the supporters' frustrations with that.

"Today wasn't so much about performance, it was just another day when we let a game get away from us that we shouldn't have. We weren't played off the park and I felt that up until the point they scored, we were the team that was getting on top.

"We had a couple of good chances to go 1-0 up and that would have put the pressure on them, but it's happened too many times this year. "We've given the opposition a lift into the game by conceding soft goals."

In other news, this is the Tottenham Hotspur injury state of play ahead of the international break and upcoming Chelsea clash.
