Tottenham Hotspur’s efforts to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer have been dealt a major blow after the centre-back reportedly aggrement a deal to join Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

Italian news outlet TuttoSport reported Spurs had lodged a £26million offer for the highly-rated defender and suggested director Fabio Paratici was in Turin to conduct further negotiations over the deal.

It is not the first time Bremer has been linked with a move to the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Leicester City and Newcastle United all said to have shown an interest in securing his signature over the last 12 months.

The interest is far from a surprise after the Brazilian was named as Serie A’s ‘Best Defender’ last season following a string of impressive performances for Torino.

Antonio Conte had reportedly placed Bremer on his list of transfer targets as he looks to further strengthen his defensive ranks ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Italian has been linked with a move for Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni and Villarreal star Pau Torres in recent weeks but it now looks like any move for Bremer is unlikely.

Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia has reported Inter have made a firm offer for the centre-back and have seen off interest from Spurs and Serie A rivals Napoli.

He told Calcionapoli24: “Bremer, however, already has an agreement with Inter, and the salary proposed by the Nerazzurri is too high for Napoli’s standards.”

Conte could now turn his attention towards Monaco’s France Under-21 international Benoit Badiashile, who is also the subject of interest from Newcastle.

Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez has been linked with a move to the Ligue 1 side in recent weeks - although it remains to be seen whether there is any interest in a swap deal from either club.
