Tottenham ready to battle Arsenal for 14-goal striker with release clause
Tottenham have reportedly set their sights on a Premier League attacker.
Tottenham will already be searching for potential transfer targets ahead of the summer. Spurs have had a turbulent campaign, battling through an endless stream of injuries that has made life near-impossible for Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian has come under intense pressure, and he may not be safe yet, but back-to-back wins have helped him ease the pressure, aided by the return of a handful of players from injury, while a number of others will follow.
Whether Postecoglou stays or goes come the end of the season, Spurs will be planning to invest in their squad having been given a stark reminder this season that they are not of top four quality, especially when it comes to squad depth.
New signings are very likely, and there could be another statement attacking signing, with more depth needed beyond Dominic Solanke, while Timo Werner doesn’t appear likely to stick around beyond his loan spell.
One player Tottenham could turn to, according to Fichajes, is Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. Cunha penned a new deal with Wolves in January, but the deal was penned under the understanding Cunha would be able to leave in the summer, but for a set fee.
Cunha agreed for a £62million release clause to be inserted in his contract, and clubs will now be battling for his signature ahead of next season, potentially giving the Brazilian a choice of clubs. The report claims Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are the current candidates.
Cunha has scored 14 times in 27 appearances across all competitions this season, also providing four assists. Given he is already proving how much of a threat he is in the Premier League, the 25-year-old will be in-demand, and especially if Wolves wind up being relegated. If Tottenham are to pay £62million, it could wind up being a club-record deal, with their current record being Solanke’s fee of £55million plus £10million. It would depend how many add-ons are triggered when it comes to deciding that factor.
