Ange Postecoglou saw his side fall to defeat to North London rivals Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur kept Arsenal working until the final whistle under the lights at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night but ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat in the derby clash.

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for Spurs with a well-taken volley but that lead lasted just 15 minutes before the ever-powerful Gabriel headed home via a Dominic Solanke deflection, with that goal going down as an own goal. Gunners winger Leandro Trossard then fired home from distance but Postecoglou will ask questions of his Spurs defence and goalkeeper.

Here’s how the Tottenham Hotspur players rated as they fell to an 11th defeat of the Premier League season.

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings

GK - Antonin Kinsky, 4

Looked well up for it early on as he came out confidently to deal with Arsenal set plays. However, clearly out of his depth as the game went on with some nervy moments and should have got a stronger hand on the Trossard shot to keep it out.

LB - Djed Spence, 5

His best moments came when leading a break but a little reckless in his defensive work at times.

CB - Archie Gray, 7

Probably the most convincing of the Spurs defence. Clearly not his most comfortable position but there’s a sensible head on him.

CB - Radu Dragusin, 3

Nowhere near matching the physicality of Gabriel for the goal and will be fairly criticised for his casual approach when Trossard scored. Suspect.

RB - Pedro Porro, 5

Caught out of position once or twice and couldn’t find much influence going forwards.

CM - Lucas Bergvall, 6

Showed plenty of enthusiasm but still lacking the experience for big games like this.

CM - Yves Bissouma, 5

You can’t lose possession of the ball like he did to Thomas Partey before the Trossard goal. That’s nothing short of criminal for a midfielder.

CM - Pape Sarr, 6

Picked up a yellow card for time wasting in the first half. Spurs struggled for control in the midfield at large parts with Arsenal dominating until the fixture turned end-to-end late on.

LW - Son Heung-min, 7

A quiet night but will be pleased to get on the scoresheet. His goal did take a big deflection but the technique to make strong contract with the volley was impressive.

ST - Dominic Solanke, 6

Had to feed off scraps tonight against an Arsenal defence that looked comfortable dealing with him.

RW - Dejan Kulusevski, 7

Looked like the player most likely to cause Arsenal a problem on that flank against Myles Lewis-Skelly.

SUB - James Maddison, 5

Not able to conduct a move to find an equaliser from the bench.

SUB - Brennan Johnson, 6

Did bring some added pace and dynamism but no huge impact.

SUB - Richarlison, 5

Good to see the Brazilian finally back but no heroics to salvage a point tonight.
