Tottenham vs Newcastle United injury news as 12 ruled out and 2 more suspended
All the latest injury news surrounding Newcastle and Tottenham ahead of their date in North London.
Tottenham are now looking ahead to a tough-looking clash with Newcastle United on Saturday as they look to recover from a hugely disappointing first half of the season. Spurs are sat in the bottom half of the table and seven points off sixth place after their draw with Wolves last time out.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have hit a purple patch over the festive fixtures, and they are now up to fifth place and within three points of the top four. Here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding Newcastle and Tottenham ahead of their date in North London.
Callum Wilson - Out
Wilson has a hamstring issue and will be sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Jamaal Lascelles - Out
Lascelles is not expected to return until February. He himself said: “I should be back on the grass soon and jogging in the next few weeks. It'll take me a while to build up from there, but I'm happy to be ticking those boxes, and now it's about getting my boots back on and progressing slowly that way.”
Nick Pope - Out
Pope is not expected to return from a knee injury until some time around mid-January. Eddie Howe has said: “Nick is doing OK; he has had a couple of injections in his knee, quite when he will be fit; it is still difficult to give a definitive date.”
Emil Krafth - Out
Krafth will not return until later in January, with Howe saying: “Emil is working well after undergoing surgery - back on the grass and running.”
Sven Botman - Out
Botman is not expected to return until the first Premier League fixtures after the FA Cup. Howe has said: “He's getting closer. I'm pleased with how he's been in the last couple of weeks; he's had various tests. He came through another practice match at the weekend. It'll be a case of deciding when we introduce him into the squad.”
Fabian Schar - Out (Suspended)
Schar has reached his yellow card limit and will miss this one as a result.
Vicario - Out
Vicario remains out with an ankle injury. Postecoglou has said: “Typical Vic, he's pushing every boundary. He's still a fair bit away, but he'll make sure he's back as quickly as possible. He's still around the group and invested in what we're doing. He's progressing well.”
Richarlison - Out
Richarlison is expected to finally return from his long lay off in mid-January. Postecoglou said in his last update: “Richarlison, hopefully, he'll be back in the New Year but, again, similar to Micky (van de Ven), we've got to be careful every step of the way.”
Ben Davies - Out
Davies is out until mid-January after suffering a setback in his hamstring issue. Postecoglou has said: “No, he's ruled out. Unfortunately, he had a setback in training, so he's probably out for another couple of weeks.”
Rodrigo Bentancur - Out (Suspended)
Bentancur has reached his yellow card limit and will be suspended.
Destiny Udogie - Out
Udogie has picked up a fresh hamstring issue and will be out here. Postecoglou has said: “I think it's a hamstring. Again, like I said, we've been relying on a core group of players because we just haven't had the ability to rotate, so at some point, it was going to catch up with us. Unfortunately, it caught up with Destiny.”
Wilson Odobert - Out
Odobert is out long term after a hamstring repair.
Cristian Romero - Out
Postecoglou hasn’t been clear on the extent of Romero’s injury, but the defender is expected to remain out here.
Micky van de Ven - Out
It is the same situation for van de Ven.
