Tottenham 'accelerate' deal for £50m forward ahead of Man Utd and Arsenal after Ange Postecoglou talks
Tottenham are close to landing the attacker who would be their second signing of the January transfer window.
Tottenham are reportedly close to signing Paris Saint-Germain attacker Randal Kolo Muani after manager Ange Postecoglou has already assured him regular game time.
The France international joined the Parc de Princes outfit for £74m in the summer of 2023 from Bundesliga side Frankfurt. However, the 26-year-old has struggled to find consistent form at PSG, and has been told he can seek a loan move away from the French capital. Tottenham have been linked with Kolo Muani for several weeks, and fresh reports suggest that they are the frontrunners to land the forward in the coming days.
According to Italian Football Journalist Mirko Di Natale, Postecoglou has spoken to Kolo Muani and Spurs have accelerated their pursuit of him in the last 48 hours. He posted on X: “Tottenham is working on a loan with an option for €60 million [£50m] and hopes to close the deal as soon as possible. Spurs have accelerated in the last 48 hours to avoid competition from important clubs such as Juventus.”
Di Natale also confirmed that Postecoglou has had conversations with Kolo Muani assuring him that he will get regular first-team football if he moves to North London.
Tottenham’s Premier League rivals set to miss out on Kolo Muani
Manchester United have been exploring a loan deal for the French international, as they look to bolster their attacking options up front. In terms of attacking help, United are desperate for more goals as they currently have scored 23 in 20 Premier League games. They are the joint-fifth lowest scoring side in the division.
Whereas, Spurs don’t need the help up front as much due to the fact that they currently are the second-highest scoring team in the league, despite the fact that they sit 12th in the table. However, Kolo Muani will be able to help take some pressure off striker Dominic Solanke, who remains Postecoglou’s primary option up front. If he can recapture his form from Frankfurt, the attacker could provide Spurs with a consistent source of goals.
He scored 26 goals in 50 games for the Bundesliga side before moving to PSG. He also contributed 17 assists in that time. Arsenal had also previously been linked to signing Kolo Muani as they look to add a striker. However, as the 26-year-old nears a decision over his future, reports suggesting a move to the Emirates have quietened in recent days.
Tottenham aiming to strengthen in defence
Kolo Muani would be a solid addition for Postecoglou, but there is no doubt that the Tottenham boss will be keen to bring in defensive help during the window too.
With Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies injured, Spurs are in desperate need of more depth at the back. 18-year-old midfielder Alfie Gray has been filling in at centre-back for Postecoglou, something that can’t be a reliable long-term option for the club.
They have been linked with Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens, who would reportedly cost around £12m-£16m. The 20-year-old could fill in for the injured Van de Ven and Romero whilst they are out, and also develop into a more regular starter for Spurs.
