Tottenham 'interested' in goal-scoring winger amid fresh transfer priority claim
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham as they turn attention back to the Premier League.
Tottenham now turn their attention to a Premier League date with fellow strugglers Leicester City after Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Hoffenheim. Ange Postecoglou is under real pressure currently, and he can ill-afford a slip-up amid the threat of being dragged into the thick of the relegation battle with a defeat this weekend.
In the meantime, the search for new signings goes on, with Spurs determined to add to their still injury-hit squad. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the North London club.
Toure interest
Tottenham are said to be interested in a deal for 18-year-old Ivorian winger Bazoumana Toure. According to Fotboll Direkt, the North London club are one of a number of outfits interested in the Hammarby starlet.
Hammarby are said to be resigned to losing the talented youngster, hoping the level of interest pushes up the price. Touré has eight goals and three assists in 23 games from out wide this season.
Spurs priority
Tottenham will prioritise adding depth at centre-back between now and the end of the window, according to one Sky Sports reporter. “Ben Davies has just come back, Romero and Van de Ven are likely to come back sooner rather than later now, we’re told,” Dharmesh Sheth said.
“Archie Gray has shown that he can play there, even though I’m sure Tottenham fans and yourselves would want him playing in his preferred position. So, numbers wise, I don’t think that that’s the top of the list for Tottenham in this window, but I think a forward player is, and it’s been accentuated now because of that injury to Solanke.”
Ange risks
Gary Neville has been discussing Ange Postecoglou’s risky defensive tactics on It's Called Soccer! He said: “You’re talking about really subtle things, aren’t you so you’re talking about the potential of the two full-backs not being as high up the pitch at the same time as early in the build-up of play. Simple thing. One really simple thing that I would say is a massive risk. If you give the ball away in your own defensive third and your full-backs are too advanced, your centre-backs have got massive spaces alongside them, you’re likely to concede goals.
“But that’s the way he plays, that’s the bit we loved about him last season. So I agree with you [Rebecca Lowe], that’s not exactly what I would do, I would adapt, I would like to see my football team adapt to different circumstances but he’s not going to do it.”
