Tottenham 'submit bid' for 'extraordinary' attacker who has missed 131 games through injury
Tottenham are being linked with a move for a once highly-rated attacker.
Tottenham are said to be interested in a bargain deal as the end of the winter transfer window comes into sight. Spurs are in desperate need of bodies, with their defensive injury woes having given way for problems at the top end of the pitch.
The likes of Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Dominic Solanke have picked up issues, leaving Ange Postecoglou short again. Tottenham are already as low as 15th in the table, and while there are teams at far greater risk of relegation, it is still a very uncomfortable position for a club that is used to competing for European qualification.
It’s no secret that Postecoglou is under pressure, but it appears as though he will be backed for now. New signings are part of that, which is no surprise given the injury crisis that has spanned the season. A number of players have been linked, but according to Fichajes, FC Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati is of interest this month.
It’s claimed Tottenham have submitted a loan bid for Fati with the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season. Barca could be ready to move on from Fati despite the fact the 22-year-old burst onto the scene and looked to be a generational talent as a youngster.
Injuries have piled up since then, and he has already missed a total of 131 games through injury. Even on his loan spell with Brighton last season, Fati missed as many as 14 games with a calf issue and struggled to make an impact as a result. This season, Fati has missed 11 games with a between a foot and muscular issue.
The youngster has eight appearances in all for Barca this season, although only four of those have come in La Liga. Just one of those has been a league outing. Though, Spurs would only be committing to an initial loan deal if the report proves true, avoiding some of the risk involving in signing the forward.
Former Barca boss Xavi described Fati as ‘extraordinary’ back in 2022, saying: "Ansu has been very good, I have seen him at 100%, these two weeks have dome him very well, he has been extraordinary in training. Ansu has proposed to be important, and I'm convinced that he will be,” The winger has scored 22 goals in 83 league appearances in all, while he scored twice in 19 games during a loan spell for Brighton and two in 10 games for Spain.
