Tottenham have some players fighting for fitness ahead of their first home game of the season against Manchester United.

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero had to be substituted in the game against Brentford and will now be assessed by the medical team ahead of their first home game of the campaign against Manchester United tis weekend.

Ange Postecoglou confirmed he erred on the side of caution when he took him out against Brentford and is hoping it’s all fine for the weekend. He told reporters at the weekend: “We’re in an era where we know about these things so I’m not a doctor and anytime that happens I think it’s really important that we protect the players. They don’t know what’s going on and I had medical advice.”

The game against Manchester United will test the new Spurs team with the Lilywhites desperate to have their key men ready to face Erik ten Hag’s side who just about did enough to take all three points against Wolves on Monday night.

Long-term absentee Rodrigo Bentancur is still months away from returning to full fitness. The Uruguayan ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a game with Leicester in February and required an operation.

Ryan Sessegnon has a hamstring injury, Bryan Gil is battling with a groin injury and Fraser Forster could not even make the bench away at Brentford because of a back injury.

Tottenham are determined to change a lot of things including their style of play. The new change was evident in their 2-2 draw at Brentford in the Premier League opener.

Now manager Ange Postecoglou will hope that the combination of their home fans and players with a point to prove will be enough to get them all three points against Manchester United.
