Blow for Ange Postecoglou: Tottenham duo ruled out until 2024 after latest update

Tottenham are without seven players ahead of their game against Newcastle on Sunday including influential duo James Maddison and Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou does not expect to have influential duo James Maddison and Micky van de Ven back this year. Maddison picked up an ankle injury in their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea last month and fellow summer signing Van de Ven suffered a hamstring injury in the same game.

Spurs have recovered both Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr and Brazilian forward Richarlison for Newcastle this weekend but Postecoglou says that is the best they will have in a while.

He told reporters at the club's training base in Enfield: "No, that's it. Obviously, we got Pape a few minutes last night and I understand he and Richy came through ok but there won't be anyone else coming back between now and the new year."

Eric Dier, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ashley Phillips, Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon will all miss this weekend's clash but captain Son Heung-min who was replaced against West Ham due to a knock is expected to return as Spurs go in search of their first win in their last six outings.

Postecoglou added on Son: "The last update I got was late last night and he was a bit sore after the game obviously but the extent of it we'll need to see how he recovers today. There were a couple of others with knocks but I don't think anything else is significant."

The Lilywhites have dropped a league-high 16 points from winning positions this season, with 14 of those coming since the start of November. They go into Sunday's game against Newcastle with four defeats and one draw and pressure mounting on their Australian manager.
