Spurs' struggles to win after taking a lead in recent games has been in part due to a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal. Here's how they did against Newcastle.

Spurs found their shooting boots once again in a 4-1 win over Newcastle United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although the flying start to the season papered over the Kane-shaped hole. A failure to be ruthless with chances in recent months has seen the team losing from winning positions time and again.

After Thursday's disappointment against West Ham, Ange Postecoglou's team really needed a win. To add firepower against Newcastle, in came Brazil striker Richarlison to combine with Heung-Min Son, Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski in attack.

Richarlison was excellent from the start and got his goal towards the end of the first half, after Udogie had already given Spurs the lead.

Son, shifted wide on the left, provided assists for both of those goals, enjoying the chance to stretch his legs without being sat on marshalled by a pair of centre-backs.

There were plenty of half chances in the first half and a couple of crosses that might have found their man. Perhaps the best opportunity came after half an hour to Pape Matar Sarr, who miscued in the box.

The second half began with the first period of concerted Newcastle pressure, but an hour in it was Richarlison again who found the net. The touch took him wide but he was able to convert to make it 3-0.

Minutes later the game could have been well out of reach for Newcastle, with Son and Johnson spurning chances they'll feel they should have converted. A flurry of shots followed, with keeper Dubravka getting his hands to two that he would expect to save.

The fourth goal came though, Son fed through and adjudged to have been brought down by the keeper. He dispatched the penalty confidently.

More goals should have followed, both Son and Skipp unable to convert from close range.

In injury time Newcastle found a consolation goal through Joelinton, who finished well, unmarked at the edge of the box.

There is no doubt that the reintroduction of Richarlison as a focus up front rejuvenated the attack. The Brazilian worked hard and finished well, while Son found freedom on the wing and Kulusevski flourished in the middle.
