A Tottenham defender is set to leave the club to join a fellow London club on a loan deal.

Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon is set to join fellow Premier League outfit Brentford on a loan deal until the end of the 2023/24 seasonn - an official verbal agreement is in place, with a medical set to take place today.

This is according to a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter). He notes that the deal has no buy clause, meaning that Reguilon will return to Spurs at the end of the campaign - his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is due to expire in the summer of 2025.

He has already spent a period out on loan this season, when he joined Erik ten Hag's Manchester United during the summer transfer window. All in all, he made nine Premier League appearances for the Red Devils - he was generally seen as a backup option Luke Shaw during his spell at Old Trafford.

Should Tottenham have kept Sergio Reguilon at the club?

For all of Reguilon's talents as an attacking full-back, it seems that Ange Postecoglou does not have a place for the 27-year-old in his squad. He seems to prefer more defensive-minded full-backs, despite his propensity for attacking football.

With just 18 months left on the Spaniard's contract, it would not be surprising to see him leave the club on a permanent basis in the summer. If Postecoglou cannot find a place for him in the team, it makes sense to cash in on his services - rather than letting him go on a free transfer.

Since he joined Spurs back in 2020, Reguilon has made 52 appearances in the Premier League for the Lilywhites, scoring a total of two goals along the way. It hasn't really worked out for the former Real Madrid man in North London - but his time at Tottenham isn't over yet.
