Son Heung-min and 5 other Tottenham Hotspur stars free to negotiate Spurs exit in January as things stand

As we move further into the 2024/25 season, it is time for clubs to begin renewing player deals - and this is no different at Tottenham Hotspur, who have six players who will be out of contract in the summer.
Players in the final years of their contracts are free to talk to clubs outside of England from January, or six months before their respective deals expire. It means that discussions over a move elsewhere can begin midway through the season - a scenario Spurs will be keen to avoid with some of their players. Below we run through the latest on each player’s contract situation in North London.

Ben Davies signed a three-year contract extension back in 2022, with that set to come to an end at the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Certain outlets claimed he had signed a new deal in the summer, but this proved to be wide of the mark. Right now, there is no news on a potential new deal for the Welsh international. It seems that he will allow his contract to run out, according to a report in August from Football Insider.
Sergio Reguilon
Sergio Reguilon has struggled at Tottenham for some time now - he became a back-up player under Antonio Conte and his status at the club has largely remained the same under Ange Postecoglou. He hasn’t played in any games for Spurs this season in a competitive capacity - as such, it is probably safe to assume that he will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of season.
Fraser Forster
Like Reguilon, Fraser Forster is unlikely to become a key member of the playing staff at Spurs any time soon. He signed a contract extension back in December - it is due to expire in June 2025. Forster has his uses in the squad - he is a solid backup option and helps the Lilywhites fulfil their homegrown quota. Nevertheless, there is no news of a fresh deal on the horizon.
Alfie Whiteman
At 26 years of age, Alfie Whiteman is no longer the promising prospect he once was. While he is a fine goalkeeper, he has still yet to make an appearance in the Premier League. Again, similar to Forster, his presence allows Spurs to stay on top of their homegrown quota - but with regular first team football looking unlikely, it may be the best move for all parties if Whiteman is allowed to move on in the summer.

Timo Werner is at Tottenham on loan from RB Leipzig, but we have included him in this list because there is an option to buy clause in his contract. Currently, we do not know if Spurs plan to activate this. Despite this, Leipzig may be keen for Spurs to do so - his contract with them will run out in the summer of 2026. If Spurs choose to buy him, it will eliminate the risk of him leaving Leipzig on a free transfer.
Son Heung-min
Sorting out Son Heung-min’s contract will be the biggest source of contention within the Spurs fanbase at the moment. He remains their most effective attacking player, even if he is somewhat past his best at the age of 32 - moreover, he has talismanic status at the club.
As things stand, Spurs have yet to open talks with the South Korean international over a new contract. Instead, he said he is ‘fully focused’ on winning silverware with the Lilywhites this season. There is a clause in Son’s current contract that will allow Spurs to extend it for an extra year, according to the Evening Standard. Nevertheless, they have not done this as of yet. They may trigger it before January to avoid the risk of him speaking with other clubs.
