The Premier League kicks off in just over three weeks time, with clubs all over the UK trying to bolster their squad ahead of a long, gruelling season.

This season is a little different to other seasons, as the Premier League is starting a week earlier, in order to cope with a World Cup in November and December which will see some teams only play one or two games.

The transfer window is well underway, with one team in particular having a great window so far, and that is Tottenham Hotspur.

Antonio Conte’s side have signed Richarlison from Everton, Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan and more, as they look to challenge for the title after securing top four, finishing above rivals Arsenal to make their way back into the champions league.

When does the Premier League season start?

The Premier League will begin on Friday, 5 August with Arsenal travelling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace.

The gunners lost 3-0 in this fixture last season, in what proved to be a decisive game in the battle for the top four.

Who have Spurs signed this season?

Traditionally, the club have been known in the past to mull over signings, sometimes losing them and then making a rash transfer, usually for an inflated fee that never turns out well.

However, with proven winner Conte at the helm, along with Fabio Paratici, who has been key in signing some of these players, it’s different now.

So far, they have signed:

Fraser Forster: Free, Southampton

Ivan Perisic: Free, Inter Milan

Clement Lenglet: Season long loan, Barcelona

Yves Bissouma: £25 million, Brighton

Richarlison: £52 million, Everton

Djed Spence - £12 million, Middlesborough

Why did Christian Romero change his number?

For the 2021/2022 season, Romero donned the number four shirt at Tottenham, which is a standard number for any defender or holding midfielder.

For this season, however, he has now changed his number to 17, which did raise some eyebrows.

However, when he arrived Moussa Sissoko, who has since departed, was wearing 17.

Now he has gone, the number is free which Romero has taken. The reason for it is that 17 was the first ever number Romero wore 17 at Belgrano, Genoa and Atalanta, and is now clearly a sentimental number for the Argentinian.

His previous number (four) has now been allocated to Oliver Skipp, a much better number than 29, and may be the first sign of him being a bigger picture in Conte’s plans.
