Tottenham defenderEric Dier is back in training and was happy enough to post a picture of himself and his teammates as reports of an exit continue to dominate the headlines.

The English defender has not been seen in the first two games of the season and was in the stands when Tottenham deservedly beat Manchester United 2-0 last weekend.

The 29-year-old was also over-looked for the team’s captainship when Harry Kane left the club despite being one of the most capped players in the team at the moment. New arrival James Maddison and World Cup winner Cristian Romero were picked to assist Son Heung-min.

There had been reports that Dier was not happy with the way his contract situation has been handled but he looked happy in his post in a sign of the good spirit that new manager Ange Postecoglou has brought since he took over.

Dier also revealed he was not getting distracted by contract talks and just wanted to get on his game. He told Football. London: “Those kinds of things [contract talks] are something that involves other people. So there needs to be mutuality there. I can’t speak for the other side (and whether Spurs want to give him a new deal).”

Tottenham are struggling with the fitness of James Maddison who left the game against Manchester United with foot protection but the possible return of Dier to the team will give some experience and cover.

The England defender has been at Spurs for almost a decade and has over 350 appearances for the club in that period.
