Tottenham have had to make a change to Yves Bissouma’s jersey number after Harry Winks left the club.

Tottenham have confirmed Malian midfielder Yves Bissouma has been handed the club’s iconic number 8 shirt that was previously worn by now departed Harry Winks.

Bissouma who joined the club last summer from Brighton has been wearing the number 38 jersey the whole last season and part of the preseason so far. Spurs fans will now however see him the No.8 jersey for the first time when the club take on Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk this Saturday before flying out to play Barcelona.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Supporters should note that all other squad numbers – with the exception of the number 13 shirt, which was assigned to Guglielmo Vicario upon his arrival earlier this summer – remain subject to change, with the full finalised list to be confirmed when the club submits its final squad list to the Premier League prior to the opening weekend of the 2023/24 season.”

Bissouma had won the No.8 throughout his time at Brighton but with Winks still attached to the club despite being out on loan last season, he stuck to the number that was given to him. Spurs have now moved fast to inform fans that their midfielder will be donning a new number this season.

There had been hints of an injury to Bissouma in the game against Lion City Sailors but all indications at the moment are that it was only fatique and he should be out there tomorrow.

Spurs could only manage two games during their tour of Asia as the game against Leicester had to be cancelled due to torrential rains- but with Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona still to come, new manager Ange Postecoglou should have enough to fine-tune his team ahead of Brentford next weekend.

Spurs fans will also hope that reports that Kane will not leave the club if a fee is not reached by the time the Premier League opening game against Brentford are true with Bayern Munich determined to sign him this summer.

The German giants have already seen two offers rejected for the England and Tottenham record goal scorer.
