Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon has taken a giant step towards returning to first-team training after his hamstring surgery by beginning individual work.

The defender is expected to begin outdoor running and should be involved in more complex training in the coming weeks after what has been a frustrating period for both the player and the club.

The 23-year-old left-back has not played this season and recently admitted he was devastated by the injury that has kept him out of the team, especially at an exciting time when almost everyone is getting a clean start.

He posted on his social media: “Devastated and not really sure what to say right now but I wanted to come on here and say thank you for all the kind messages I’ve received.

“Hopefully this provides a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel very hungry and motivated to return stronger than ever and be back to doing what I do best for you guys.”

Tottenham have a number of key players injured including Rodrigo Bentancur but the news of Ryan Sessegnon will give a team a needed boost ahead of the crunch game against Liverpool in the Premier League.
