Tottenham captain Son Heun-min has shaken off the disappointment of failing to reach the Asian Cup final and returned to London ahead of this weekend's Premier League game against Brighton.

Two-time winners South Korea crashed out of the competition following a 2-0 defeat to Jordan- ending Son's dream of leading his country to continental glory in Qatar. The Spurs superstar released an emotional apology before catching a flight back to London.

Son said in his apology to fans following the defeat in Doha: "Very disappointing, (I’m) devastated about this result. Jordan are having an amazing journey at this tournament.

“It’s incredible and they deserve it. They are fighting until the end. For us, it is very, very disappointing tonight. I have no regrets. I was giving everything, to be honest. It was a tough challenge. Now I have to go back to the club and be ready for the rest of the season.”

Son on form for Spurs

The 31-year-old has taken well to the responsibilities of inheriting the captain's armband from Harry Kane and he's rediscovered his goal scoring prowess, bagging 12 before leaving for the Asian Cup last month.

His return is without a doubt an added lift to a Spurs side who were held to a 2-2 draw at Goodison over the weekend and slipped out of the top four of the Premier League table. LondonWorld understand Son arrived in London on Wednesday morning and will be at the club's training ground to be assessed before joining the team's preparation for the game this weekend.

The Spurs skipper will meet new faces in the dressing room after the club signed German forward Timo Werner to soften the blow of his departure and promising defender Radu Dragusin, who turned down Barcelona and other big clubs in Europe to arrive in north London.

His strike partner Richarlison is also in great form having scored four goals in his last five games.
