Kane’s goal means he has now scored nine goals in the Premier League this campaign and Spurs have won all of their last 10 home games in all competitions to underline the remarkable job Antonio Conte is doing in north London.

Matt Doherty who has had to bid his time as Emerson Royal has been the preferred right wing-back put in his best performance so far this season..

Running up and down the right wing and it was his shot thet Jordan Pickford fumbled which eventually resulted in a penalty for Spurs to take the lead.

Asked about the performance of the Irish man, Conte said it was the best he had seen from the former Wolves man this season and made sure he told him how good he was today.

He told reporters after the game: “But about Doherty I’m really happy because he played a really good game against Brighton but tonight I think he played better than the last game.

“Today I saw the matty Doherty of last season and I told him because he played a very good game.

“We play a lot of games so it is important that we have all the players available.

“Also Ivan Perisic was good and also Bissouma played a really good game and I think we went to play with three midfielders and his impact was really positive.

“I think Bissouma understands that he is at a really big club and the focus and the concentration has to be at every moment at the top.”

Injury to Brazilian striker Richarlison allowed Antonio Conte to introduce Yves Bissouma, adding to the dependable pair of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in the middle.

The change allowed Spurs to have more of the ball and hurt Everton more in the second half-but Antonio Conte says he could have done with a more fitter Lucas Moura.

Antonio Conte added: “The characteristic of this squad is that we can play with three or two strikers and at this moment Lucas is only one week that he is working with us and at this moment his physical condition is not at the top.

“We needed him to play 40 minutes and for this reason we picked Bissouma. The other option was Gil but Gil is a young player with really good prospects but we needed someone that was really physical because Everton is a really physical side.”
