Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly kickstarted discussions over an exciting move for ex-Manchester United prodigy Angel Gomes as Ange Postecogolou aims to enhance his squad depth for the 2025/26 season after a tricky Premier League campaign.
The Lillywhites only narrowly missed out on Champions League football in Postecoglou’s first season in North London by securing a commendable fifth place finish but have struggled to repeat those high standards this term after an avalanche of injury difficulties.

Tottenham hold talks with Angel Gomes
Football Transfers reports that Tottenham are leading the charge to sign talented Lille midfielder Angel Gomes on a free transfer this summer. The 24-year-old is approaching the final few months of his contract at Stade Pierre Mauroy and is not expected to extend his stay in the north of France. The report claims Spurs have already ‘initiated talks’ with the player’s representatives.
The Edmonton-born midfielder, who has racked up four senior caps for the Three Lions after breaking into former interim boss Lee Carsley’s team earlier in the campaign, is believed to be seeking a move back to English football and is the subject of interest from various clubs including Manchester United and fellow capital side West Ham United.
Postecoglou is understood to be an admirer of the midfielder and is keen to bolster his options in that position with both Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr approaching the final 18 months of their contracts in North London.

Angel Gomes is capable of playing in all midfield positions and is blessed with the ability to play both behind the striker and as a deep-lying defensive midfield playmaker. He joined United’s star-studded academy when he was six and started playing for the club's U18 team when he was 14. A year later he became the club’s youngest ever recipient of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.
Gomes made just 10 appearances for the Red Devils first team before joining Lille on a free transfer in 2020 he spent his first term out on loan in Portugal with Boavista and scored six in 30 top-flight appearances before making a name for himself at Lille.
The youngster had mainly played as an attacking midfielder at United, but transitioned into a holding midfielder at Lille despite his small frame at just 5ft 6in. His specialities include his excellent ability to get pas defenders on the half term, his composure in possession and his incredible passing range. Overall, he has played 134 matches for Lille, scoring 10 goals and providing 19 assists.
After giving him his England debut, Carsley said via the National: "He's a great person. He loves football, he watches football, he's interested in tactics, he knows all the players in any league,” Carsley said of Gomes. "If you ask him for any feedback, you need to be prepared that he's going to give you some feedback on the session, or how we're going to build up, or the positions.
