Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy both agree Brennan Johnson is a top transfer target as they look to bring the Nottingham Forest striker to north London before the transfer window shuts.

The Wales striker is turning heads in Tottenham with manager Ange Postecoglou making him his prime transfer target this summer, following the exit of Harry Kane and the need to augment the strike force.

Spurs have won two and drawn one of their first three games of the new campaign and Postecoglou has not hidden the fact that they might bring in a new face before the window shuts this Friday even though he’s been operating with what he’s got.

The Australian manager said: “I don’t think there is a like-for-like replacement for Harry, but in terms of a striker we’ve been planning for this, fair to say, for a while. It doesn’t take too much investigative work to realise that this was going to happen so we’ve been planning for it to happen anyway.

“A lot of our business up to now is with that in mind. This doesn’t change things dramatically from my perspective anyway in terms of what we’re trying to build. There is still movement in the squad, absolutely. We’ve still got a fairly big squad and we need to move out some players.”

Tottenham reporters say Ange Posetcoglou has pushed for the signing of Johnson and chairman Levy has agreed and is ready to push through a £50million deal to seal the transfer.

Chelsea and even Manchester City were all interested in the Nottingham Forest striker but it is Spurs who are leading the race for him and look like they will make an attempt to sign him before the window shuts.
