Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has backed Brighton & Hove Albion to get something out of their Premier League clash with Tottenham this weekend.

Spurs are set to travel south to take on the Seagulls in Roberto de Zerbi’s first home match in charge.

Antonio Conte’s side have only won one of their last five matches in all competitions and will be desperate for the victory if they are to keep up with Arsenal and Man City at the top of the table.

However, Sutton has major doubts over Tottenham, with Liverpool already slipping up against the Seagulls last time out.

Writing in his BBC Sport column, Sutton said: “This is a hard one because of how well Brighton are playing - tricky Leandro Trossard got a treble at Anfield, and Roberto de Zerbi made a mark and showed he is a front-foot coach in his first game in charge.

“Tottenham have not really got going yet this season, in terms of playing as well as we know they can do, but the way the Seagulls are likely to play might suit Spurs.”

Despite Sutton’s concerns, ex-Brighton defender Mark Lawrenson has backed Tottenham to bounce back from their derby day defeat.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson said: “I just think Antonio Conte will be at his team after losing the north London derby.

“You know what he’s like. He’ll regard the midweek draw as okay but it just wasn’t good enough at Arsenal. I think he’ll whip them into shape.”

Chris Sutton’s prediction: Brighton 1-1 Spurs
