Speaking on Match of the Day, ex-Tottenham Hotspur man Danny Murphy believes his former club will finish above rivals Arsenal this season.

The pundit claims Spurs have more strength in depth than the Gunners after their impressive transfer window.

Antonio Conte’s side have made a strong start to the season and are unbeaten in their opening three Premier League matches.

They find themselves 2nd in the table at this moment in time and are two points behind Arsenal, who have picked up maximum points so far after three wins on the spin.

Tottenham beat Wolves 1-0 this weekend thanks to Harry Kane’s second-half header, while the Gunners saw off Bounemouth with ease.

‘Really strong’...

Murphy firstly delivered his verdict on the performance: “I was surprised in the first-half because after getting that late equaliser at Chelsea I expected them to really come out on the front foot, high in energy, but they were lethargic and a bit defensive and cautious.

“The second-half reaction was brilliant. The intensity was better, they got higher up the pitch.”

When asked who will finish higher between Spurs and Arsenal, Murphy went with his former employers: “I think Tottenham because of the strength in depth they have got. I think they can cope with injuries.

“They have started to create a squad that looks really strong and you wouldn’t be as concerned as you would have in seasons gone by. Arsenal I don’t think have that strength in depth.”

Fellow pundit and ex-Gunner Martin Keown unsurprisingly went for his former team: “Both teams will finish in the top four. Arsenal will just about pip Spurs.”

Spurs return to the action next weekend with an away trip to newly promoted Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Steve Cooper’s side won their last home match against West Ham United so could be tough opponents for Conte’s men.
