Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has reportedly given assurances to Lucas Moura over his role during the upcoming Premier League season.

The Brazilian winger has enjoyed a productive four-year spell with Spurs since moving to North London from Paris Saint-Germain in a £25million in January 2018.

After making his debut in a Champions League meeting with Juventus two weeks after his arrival, Moura has gone on to score 38 goals and provide 27 assists in 201 appearances in all competitions.

The arrival of the likes of Ivan Perisic and Dejan Kulusevski had led to speculation Moura could be allowed to depart during the summer transfer window.

Everton and Roma have both been linked with a move for the Brazil international in recent weeks as doubts over his future remained.

However, Football.London have now reported Moura has been reassured he will be ‘important’ for Antonio Conte during the upcoming season and will have a role to play as Spurs look to challenge on a number of fronts.

The Italian has hinted Moura could be handed a new role in his side this season as the former Inter and Chelsea manager continues to employ wing-backs in his preferred system.

Speaking recently, he said: “I spoke to Lucas and I think this could be a good option (at wing-back).

“In the past I made Perisic in this position. Before a winger and to become a wing-back. He has the quality. The most important thing is the player has to be 100% ready to do it, but he is available for us.

“Lucas can play in many roles. I'm very happy for his commitment and tonight I think he played a good game.”

Moura has appeared as an out-and-out winger or attacking midfielder during his time at Spurs but Conte has employed him at wing-back during pre-season and it now looks as if a conversion to a new role could extend the Brazilian’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
